Power Skating
Get a step up on the competition with CanPowerSkate, a high-energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette players. This program focuses on balance, control and agility skills including components of power and speed. Skating skills, techniques and performance drills are taught in a progressive format by Skate Canada coaches certified through the NCCP to enhance the skating ability required in game situations. Skaters may be any age and must have previous skating experience that equates to Stage 4 in CanSkate or higher. Adaptive skaters and sledge hockey skaters who have an identified skating level are welcome. All CanPowerSkate participants must wear full equipment, including a CSA approved helmet.
Please note: The CanPowerSkate program is exclusive to Skate Canada and is available only to Skate Canada member clubs and sanctioned skating schools. All participants must be registered with Skate Canada. Only Skate Canada member Coaches trained and certified at a CanPowerSkate Coaches Course are qualified to instruct the CanPowerSkate program.
Suggested levels based on age; skaters may be moved between groups based on skating skill and ability, and is at the discretion of the coaching staff.
Power 1: ages 5-8
Power 2: ages 8-10
Power 3: ages 10+
Advanced Power
Advanced Power Skating is a fast-paced, high-intensity power skating program for youth hockey and ringette players. Skaters must have completed CanPowerSkate or equivalent skating ability (approximately U14-U18 players in Tier 2 or higher). The small group sessions will focus on agility, speed and control with and without the use of pucks/rings. Skaters will be challenged through individual and group skills and drills, with lots of opportunity for one-on-one coaching. Pre-registration for this program is required.
